Our Priorities for St Neots

Supporting residents through the cost-of-living crisis

Energy and fuel prices are sky-rocketing, food isn’t far behind and wages aren’t keeping up. Meanwhile, the Conservative government has hiked up National Insurance contributions and cut Universal Credit by £20 a week. HDC must do all it can to help residents cope with this looming crisis. We want to see emergency payments, debt management advice and free activities for families who will otherwise miss out.

Arts and culture

Culture isn’t just something that’s nice to have. It’s what brings people together, bridging divides and building stronger, caring communities. This is more important than ever as we adjust after the pandemic. We are already working hard to make St Neots a destination for art, culture and leisure activities.

Investing in young people

From youth clubs to apprenticeships, outreach work to mental health support, there’s a huge amount we can do for the young people in our community. Some people believe that, because young people tend not to (or aren’t old enough to) vote, they’re easy for politicians to ignore. We believe that investing in young people means the whole of society benefits.

Climate action

This is the biggest challenge of our (and perhaps any) generation. HDC is making incremental steps toward meaningful progress to cut carbon emissions. It can and must be a trailblazer, inspiring, supporting and incentivising businesses and residents to do their bit. While the Conservative government drags its heels, let’s show them — and other councils — that curbing emissions is necessary, achievable and has public support.

Reinvigorating St Neots town centre

The Future High Streets Fund is a unique opportunity to reimagine what our town centre is for. We believe it should be led by people who live in St Neots and are in touch with local communities. The views of residents must be at the heart of every decision. HDC has raised £16.3 million for this project — enough for real, meaningful change — but this is your town, your money and your project.
